Frequently Asked Questions
What supplies do I need for a uromastyx?
At minimum you need an enclosure (4x2x2 ft for adults), UVB lighting, basking bulb, digital thermometer, substrate, water dish, and appropriate food. Browse our categories for everything you need.
What temperature does a uromastyx need?
Basking spot should be 120-130F, cool side around 85F, and nighttime temps can drop to 70-75F. Use a reliable digital thermometer with probes on both sides.
What do uromastyx eat?
Uromastyx are primarily herbivorous. Feed dark leafy greens (endive, dandelion greens, escarole), seeds (millet, lentils), and occasional flowers. Dust food with calcium powder 3-4 times weekly.
How long do uromastyx live?
With proper care, uromastyx can live 15-25 years in captivity. Some species may live even longer. Investing in quality supplies from the start ensures a long, healthy life.
Do you ship supplies internationally?
We currently ship within the United States. International shipping may be available for select items.
What substrate is best for uromastyx?
A 70/30 mix of organic topsoil and play sand packed firm works well. Avoid loose pure sand for juveniles. We carry pre-mixed desert substrates designed for uromastyx.
How often should I replace UVB bulbs?
Replace T5 UVB tubes every 12 months and compact UVB bulbs every 6 months, even if they still produce visible light. UV output decreases before the bulb burns out.
